PROTOCOL FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. LOUIS COLLIE CLUB
(Revised April 30, 1997)
The purpose of this Protocol shall be to establish a standard of conduct to be followed by all members of the St. Louis Collie Club, Inc. in the normal course of breeding, judging, exhibiting and sale of Collies and to further determine policy regarding trustworthy, sportsman-like conduct of its members. We recognize the difficulty of covering all situations and, for this reason, any failure to comply with the intent of the Protocol shall be handled in the same manner as a specific violation. It is the responsibility of all members to maintain good standing with the American Kennel Club; read and understand the rules and regulations; and must make every effort to keep abreast of changes and revisions in a timely manner. It is the responsibility of all members to read and understand the written Collie Standard as established by the Collie Club of America. The St. Louis Collie Club encourages breeders to breed only for the improvement of the breed within the established written standard of the Collie Club of America and in reasonable numbers to assure the produce of the breeding can be placed in proper homes and care.
1. It is the duty of all members to support the Club and its activities, to work together as a unit, each member actively participating with the common goal in mind of promoting the Collie as a breed.
2. No member shall knowingly sell puppies or breeding stock to pet dealers or other commercial sources; no shall dogs be given as prizes in contests or exploited to the detriment of the breed.
3. Any Collie sold with papers must be without defects to the degree that these defects would not interfere with its normal function as a suitable pet or companion. It must be in good condition, free of communicable diseases and parasites and with health guaranteed for a reasonable length of time. At the time of transfer of any Collie on full registration, all congenital and hereditary defects will be disclosed. Collies not expressly used for breeding purposes are to be transferred on limited registrations and/or spay/neuter contracts.
4. All dogs offered at stud must be in good health and free from communicable diseases and parasites. Dogs known to be sterile, monorchid or cryptorchid must not be offered at stud. Stud owners must inform customers of any disqualifying defects. Bitches to be bred must be free from communicable diseases and parasites. Bitches must be bred only to selected stud. Owner of bitch must be consulted before any other stud is used. Only an actual witnessed tie shall be considered a breeding unless otherwise mutually agreed to by both parties. No artificial insemination (AI) is to be performed except by mutual prior consent.
5. All financial arrangements must be understood by both parties in advance of transfer or services and agreed to in writing by both parties.
6. All advertising must be honest and not in any way misleading or fraudulent. Variety must be so designated in all advertising.
7. Privately, as well as publicly, all members must conduct themselves at all times in such a manner so as to reflect credit on the St. Louis Collie Club and Collies in particular.
8. All members shall be given a copy of this Protocol when applying for membership and by the act of signing the application signify their acceptance of this code in its entirety. Membership in the Collie Club of America does not preclude compliance with the Protocol of the St. Louis Collie Club, Inc.
9. Any St. Louis Collie Club member found by a court of law to be in violation of any federal, state, city or county anti-cruelty statute is subject to expulsion from St. Louis Collie Club membership.
